Local Artists Step out of the Box

Brookfield, WI- A new gallery concept features local Milwaukee Artists-- in of all places, A FLOORING STORE.

In the past decade there has been a movement promoting consumers to shop local. This is an important movement; however, some fail to realize that we must also support local arts and crafts. Local artisians and craftsmen are an important part of the culture in our communities. Drexel, located on Bluemound Road, has decided to take SHOP LOCAL to the next level by now featuring local artwork throughout their showroom.

The artwork displayed ranges in mediums from fine point marker drawings from Kendall Erickson who is a soon-to-be graduate of MIAD,to intricate pastel works from experienced and nationally recognized artist Colette Odya Smith. Amongst the artists, we have two photography majors from MIAD, a mixed media high school art teacher from Menomonee Falls, a Saint Francis of Assisi Sister, a photographer who prints in her own dark room, and many more! There are over 50 pieces on display and they are all for sale.  Drexel will accept no commission on the work, it's simply to give the customers that finishing touch on making their house a home.

“Supporting local artists through exhibiting their work in our showroom felt like a natural connection.  At Drexel, we offer flooring, cabinets, and window treatments… honestly, what better way to put the finishing touches on a newly remodeled room than to acquire a piece of fine art from a local artists," says Betsy Larson, floor covering specialist at Drexel. Larson lead the charge in selecting the first 10 local artists that are being featured.  You can find a complete list of the local artist on the Drexel facebook page or go to
drexel-inc.com.

Next time you get the urge to view art, why not support the talented artists around Greater Milwaukee, stop by this local Brookfield business!  Shopping local and buying local art is a way for you to give a unique look and feel to your home.  It also allows you to personalize your surroundings in a more unique way.

"We encourage customers to step out of the box, and come home to Drexel.  This gallery concept enhances the local art community as well as our customer experience,"  states Joel Fleischman, owner of Drexel.  "We don't believe it's ever been done before, but that being said, we think it is going to be the new way to feature local artists in our community."
